Tarquin's visual thought for the day! (Am still trying to get him to actually blog! Sadly, he's feeling a bit under the weather today.)
Meanwhile, some big stories today in India include:
Bollywood Queen Aishwarya Rai being summoned by customs officials in Mumbai after they intercepted a package addressed to her containing some electronics and 23,000 Euros in hidden cash! No charges have been filed.
Yesterday was Children's Day, but the headlines here in Delhi were dominated by the kidnapping of a three-year-old boy, Anant, whose father runs Adobe. The news has provoked concern and anger among parents in posh Noida, a suburb of Delhi. According to a report in the Indian Express, kidnapping is emerging as an industry.
Also, I'm working on a story about China and India. As the world's two fastest growing economies, should they join hands and create a giant CHINDIA? After their war in 1962, India has never really trusted China and is today still ambivalent about opening the door fully. So I'll be visiting a toy shop in Delhi to find out why people prefer Chinese... going to India's war memorial... and talking to Chinese businessmen trying desperately to gain a foothold here. Listen out for that story on BBC Radio in a few days.
On the home front, Tarquin's learning Hindi - and doing bahut acha!- and I managed to record some Delhi morning sounds. If I can just figure out how to post an audio link before I have to rush off and record other stuff, I'll put it up today!
